NHS Screening Programme

Advice:

Bowel cancer is a common type of cancer in both men and women. About one in twenty people will get it during their lifetime. Screening can help to detect bowel cancer at an early stage when it is easier to treat.

Screening in England is offered as follows:

  • Patients aged 55 are invited for a one-off flexible sigmoidoscopy
  • Patients aged 60 – 74 will be invited to do a FIT every two years
  • Patients aged 75 or over can request a FIT every two years by calling the free bowel cancer screening helpline.
