Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a type of irregular heartbeat that can cause blood clots to form in your heart.

AF is the most common type of irregular heart rhythm with over 1 million people in the UK living with the condition. The prevalence increases with age.

People with AF have a five-fold increased risk of stroke and account for between 20% and 30% of the 110,000 new strokes each year in the UK.

It is important for you to know your pulse. Please click on the link for information on how to check your pulse

If you suspect your pulse is irregular you may need further tests to confirm whether you have AF so please call the Practice to book an appointment to discuss.
