April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer and affects over 42,000 people in the UK each year, but over 90% of cases can be successfully treated if diagnosed early.

Symptoms include persistent changes in bowel habits, rectal bleeding, unexplained weight loss and abdominal pain.

Is your bowel cancer screening kit sitting at the back of a drawer?

Screening is offered to everyone aged 54 to 74 every two years and will soon be available for everyone aged 50 to 74 years old. Catching bowel cancer early reduces your chances of getting seriously ill from it.

Early diagnosis saves lives

People aged 75 or over can also get screening for bowel cancer every 2 years but need to call the bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 6060 and ask for the test.

So, if you have received a test, don’t just leave it in the back of a drawer – send it back today.
